United Sates & China's Trade War

  • The dispute has seen the US and China impose tariffs on hundreds of billions of dollars worth of one another’s goods.
  • So far, the US has imposed tariffs on more than $360b of Chinese goods, and China has retaliated with tariffs on more than $110b of US products.
  • Since the 1980s, Trump advocated tariffs to reduce the U.S. trade deficit and promote domestic manufacturing,
  • The trade war has been criticized internationally, including by U.S. businesses and agricultural organizations, though most farmers continued to support Trump.

Donald Trump has announced he will sign a long-awaited trade agreement with China on 15 January.

The goal of every investor should be to build a well-diversified portfolio that is designed to weather any political and economic environment while achieving growth over the long-term.

A Possible Change of Guard?

  • Throughout history an upcoming presidential election has lead to the rise of the value of gold.
  • Whether a new president is elected or the current president serves a second term unease of the outcome of the economy is common.
  • Experts believe that gold is a hedge against the fall of the US dollar, in which if the people are unsure of the new president and if he/she can keep the country together financially they will invest in gold.
  • Because of this it is wise to observe the precious metals markets and specifically the probability of gold’s value increasing.
